We have recently developed a web based application (Madares o­nline‌) that offers alternative channels of communication between the parents and the school. This will permit the school to transmit to the parents the most up-to-date information about their children in a convenient way and with minimal work from the staff. o­ne important feature of this site is that some of this information is sent by SMS to the parents. This will guarantee that important information reaches even those who are not familiar with the internet or who do not have the time to check the site o­n a regular basis. We believe that this can be particularly useful for parents whose children are in boarding schools. The way this works is as follows. The school makes a yearly subscription with a number of licenses equal to the number of parents interested in subscribing in this service. This will give the school an administration account permitting its staff to enter the students data into the site. This data can then be seen by the parents using their usernames and passwords. This same data is sent automatically by SMS to the parents cellular phones. This data is basically the exam results, the monthly reports, absence, and important events announcements. Also the parents can use the web site to send comments and feedback to the school. Since that this application is web based, o­nly the basic knowledge of the use of a web browser is needed to use it.
